The Store Has Gone Digital item,
The women arrived at a large department store.
Fiona climbed out of the driver’s side of her van, straightened her jacket, and announced, “Ladies, we’re going to be organized.”
Sharon opened the passenger door.
“Wonderful. When do we start?”
Suzy stepped onto the pavement, studying the enormous building.
“I’m guessing sometime after we find Fiona.”
They entered through the automatic doors.
A cheerful employee greeted them.
“Welcome! Have you tried our new shopping feature? You can use your phone to locate merchandise. The shelf lights blink to show you exactly where your items are.”
Fiona stopped walking.
“Blink?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“On purpose?”
“Yes.”
Sharon leaned toward Suzy. “This is going to be good.”
Fiona pulled out her phone.
“I happen to appreciate technology.”
Suzy smiled. “You also happen to have called me yesterday because your phone was ringing and you couldn’t find it.”
“It was under my newspaper.”
“You were talking on it.”
“That is beside the point.”
The employee demonstrated the feature.
“Just select your item, and the little light beside it will blink.”
Fiona typed measuring cups.
Three aisles away, a tiny green light began flashing.
“Oh!” Sharon exclaimed. “Look! It’s calling us!”
Suzy peered down the aisle.
“Wonderful. The measuring cups are having a medical emergency.
