The women headed toward housewares.
Fiona held her phone in front of her like a compass.
“Straight ahead. Then left.”
Sharon spotted a display of colorful kitchen towels.
“Oh, these are lovely.”
“Not on the list,” Fiona announced.
Suzy picked up a towel embroidered with a chicken.
“This one looks like it knows everybody’s business.”
Sharon laughed. “That chicken looks like my aunt Mildred.”
“Then we’d better buy two. She’ll want one for herself.”
Meanwhile, Fiona had reached the measuring cups.
“Found them!”
She tapped another item.
A light blinked at the far end of the aisle.
She tapped again.
Another light flashed.
And another.
Sharon looked around.
“Fiona, why is the whole aisle blinking?”
“I’m locating my merchandise.”
“You’re locating everybody’s merchandise!”
A man pushing a cart stopped beside them.
“Excuse me, is there some kind of sale happening?”
Suzy glanced at the flashing shelves.
“Either that or the baking department is trying to land an airplane.”
The man laughed and continued shopping.
Fiona frowned at her phone.
“Now it’s suggesting I buy a waffle maker.”
“Do you need one?” Sharon asked.
“No.”
“Then don’t.”
“It says people who buy measuring cups also buy waffle makers.”
Suzy folded her arms.
“People who buy measuring cups also buy toilet paper. Doesn’t mean we’re making waffles in the bathroom.”
Sharon burst out laughing.
Fiona tapped her phone again.
“Now it wants to know whether I’d like a personalized shopping experience.”
Suzy looked around the aisle.
“Tell it you’d like a private one. We’ve got half the store watching us.”
