They moved into clothing.
Sharon was admiring a beautiful green blouse when Fiona’s phone spoke.
“BASED ON YOUR SHOPPING INTERESTS, YOU MAY ALSO ENJOY THESE PRODUCTS.”
Fiona stared at it.
“I didn’t ask you.”
“WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE RECOMMENDATIONS?”
“No.”
“YOU MAY BE INTERESTED IN COMFORTABLE WALKING SHOES.”
Sharon looked at Fiona’s feet.
“Well, it has a point.”
“My shoes are perfectly comfortable!”
Suzy picked up a stylish pair of red shoes from a display.
“Those are attractive.”
The phone spoke again.
“WOULD YOU LIKE TO EXPLORE FOOTWEAR?”
Fiona gasped.
“How does it know we’re looking at shoes?”
Sharon whispered, “Maybe it can see us.”
Fiona immediately held her phone facedown.
Suzy examined the red shoes.
“Fiona, if your phone can see through your handbag, we’ve got bigger problems than footwear.”
Sharon found a full-length mirror and tried on a wide-brimmed hat.
“What do you think?”
Suzy studied her.
“You look like you’re about to inherit a vineyard and fire the gardener.”
Sharon tilted her head.
“Really?”
“Absolutely. And I’d watch that television show.”
Sharon placed the hat in her cart.
Fiona sighed.
“We’re getting distracted.”
Suzy looked into Fiona’s cart.
“Then explain the ceramic rooster.”
“He was on clearance.”
“And the artificial palm tree?”
“It was next to the rooster.”
“Of course. They probably came together from Florida.”
